Description
A lot of music players can be found in the android market - many with tons of features. 3 (aka cubed) is a player with a great simplistic design and with great features.
The default way in 3 to browse trough your music collection is the "cube" (hence the name "cubed") that lets you scroll through artists or albums or songs by spinning the cube up and down, showing the album covers on the faces of the cube. Spinning the cube left and right lets you jump directly to an entry with the corresponding initial. The other methods to browse through the music collection are "Wand", which shows the album covers in two columns, "Morph Flow" that lets you leaf through single covers with a nice transition effect and "Simple", which simply shows a textual list of artists, albums or songs. You can choose if you want to browse by artists, albums or songs.
Because the visual effects only come to its own with available album art, you can have 3 automatically download missing covers automatically. You still can change the album art later on by choosing a picture from various sources (by long tapping on the cover). This feature comes in very handy and makes browsing your music collection a pleasure, when all covers are available.
You can also let the app show the player controls when the screen is locked to pause the music or jump to another song.
Together with the separate app Concerts3 you can get the tour dates of the artists in your music collection - nice.
To let last.fm users know what you have been and what you are listening to, you can use one of the freely available scrobbler apps "Simple Last.fm scrobbler or "Scrobble Droid" to "scrobble" the songs to last.fm.
The application is actively developed and gets regular updates with fixes and enhancements.
Our opinion
3 is an eye catching music player with great features. Esp. the automatic fetching of missing album covers makes browsing the music collection fun. And best of all: the app is free. Don't forget to donate if you like this app!
