LiveView - micro display mirrors Android phone's content
Sony Ericsson anounced today a new accessory called 'LiveView'. It introduces a rather interesting concept, which is the ability to show the phone's content remotely on a small (3.5 x 3.5 x 1.1cm) micro display (1,3”colour OLED display, 128x128 pixels resolution). Although it is not a touch display, the user can navigate on the device by touching the frames on each side. This allows for interaction with the device, and more over, with the Android phone that is connected to the small display.
Find out some more details in the video below:
Looks pretty cool, doesn't it?
The LiveView micro display is able to show its owner the following content out of the box:
- Music player control
- Play, pause, next, previous track and volume adjustment
- Track title display
- Social Networking Services
- Display Facebook™ updates
- Display Twitter™ updates
- Display incoming texts
- Display RSS feeds
- Show phone number for incoming calls
- Mute ringer for incoming phone calls
- List of missed calls
- Calendar reminders
- Find your phone
- Display time and date
- Bluetooth™ technology
- Micro USB connector
Sony Ericsson also announced that it will provide an open platform for 3rd party developers to include support for the LiveView device, so basically any application will be able to show its content on the micro display - as long as the developer implements this feature in his app. Sony Ericsson claims that the battery will last 4 days for a 'typical consumer behaviour'.
The device will be available in Q4 (obviously only after the Android 2.1-Upgrade for the Xperia family ;) ) We will try to get hold of this tiny toy as soon as possible, so we can provide you with hands on information - we will keep you posted!
