X10 - Software Update available (not Android 2.1 yet!)
Sony Ericsson is rolling out a software update for the Xperia X10i. It has the version R2BA020 and brings a couple of changes - read on for more details.
According to SE, the update is available from now on and will be rolled out in different markets in the next couple of days. The new software will be available via the update service and also OTA (over the air) with the built in update application of the X10.
The visible changes are:
Themes in Timescape
The Timescape background can be customized with 5 pre-installed color themes.
Backup & Restore application
There is a new application which allows backing up and restoring some content on the phone, for example if you change a phone, or before doing a software upgrade. As of now, the following details can be backed up:
There is also a possibility to schedule backups automatically. This is definitely a step in the right direction, although it would be nice to see a broader range of backup possibilities (e.g. apps, more system settings etc.).
Invisible changes
In general, the X10 feels faster and snappier after the update, apps get installed faster, and Sony Ericsson also promised a better battery life. We can't confirm the latter definitely yet, but after one day of usage the battery drain feels much less than before the update.
All in all, we can recommend the update, it is definitely a step into the right direction. We are awaiting the next step (i.e. Android 2.x) eagerly, go Sony Ericsson! :)
