LiveDock Hands On Video
The Sony Ericsson LiveDock is more than a simple mobile phone stand - in our hands-on video, we show you how you can connect an external keyboard and a mouse to an Xperia ray via the LiveDock!
A couple of months ago, Sony Ericsson announced the LiveDock accessory. You can consider this to be a somewhat "smart" docking station for the Xperia line phones. The device has 2 input connectors (microUSB for power, USB port for connecting USB devices, both female). A phone can be connected via the microUSB connector.
Via the LiveWare app installed on an Xperia phone, it can be defined which app should be started whenever a LiveDock (or any connected USB device) is attached to the phone. Since each LiveDock carries its own ID, it is also possible to define a dedicated app per LiveDock device. This means that for example that connecting LiveDock A in the office can start the Mail application, connecting a LiveDock B in the bedroom can start the Alarm Clock.
The other interesting thing you can do: connect a keyboard and/or a mouse to the LiveDock and use this to navigate on the phone. In order for this to work, the Xperia device needs to run on Android 2.3.4 (the update to this latest Gingerbread version will start rolling out in October, according to Sony Ericsson).
The following peripherals can be attached:
- USB keyboard (English layout will be supported)
- USB Mouse
- PS3 and Xbox360 controllers (connected via USB)
