Xperia X10 will get pinch-to-zoom feature!

Sony Ericsson today confirmed that it is working on enabling a basic multitouch feature called 'pinch to zoom' for the Xperia X10 with a OTA firmware upgrade sometime in the first quarter of 2011.
The Product Blog states that the support for pinch to zoom will be limited to Google Maps and the web browser for the stock applications. However, it should also be available for 3rd party apps. The product blog already warned about the fact that it is a very basic multitouch, which might be unreliable and might also lead to problems:
... don’t expect e.g. multi touch gaming with buttons pressed simultaneously on different parts of the screen to work.
This is certainly nice news, even though it comes in at a pretty late stage, and from the sounds of it, it seems to be somewhat of a "hack" that SE is implementing here. But let's wait and see where how far they can take it in terms of reliability and usability. The update is said to be deployed via an OTA (Over The Air) update, as mentioned before somtime in the first three months of 2011.
